Our Cairns Trip - Day 4

We let the girls sleep in this morning as they have been getting very irritable lately and we didn't want any fighting today. Especially after such a huge day yesterday.

We started off the day with a late breaky at AB's then headed off on our trip to Mossman and Port Douglas.

After a beautiful drive along the coast we headed inland a bit to Mossman. When we got to AB's school we turned left and headed out to Mossman Gorge.

Mossman Gorge is beautiful. The water was freezing but very refreshing. As one of the tourists put it today, once you are in and go numb it's beautiful.

Speaking of tourists, there were way too many at the gorge for my liking.

On the way back to the car we stopped off at another lookout and saw a nice little spot for a swim, so I took the girls down through the bush and a little creek. CB put her hand in front of me and said "What's this Daddy ?". Looking at her hand I said to her "Oh, nothing darl, it's just a leech" as I pulled it off her hand. After that JP freaked out a bit to say the least.

After the gorge, we headed back down to Port Douglas. We had lunch at "The Courty" (The Courthouse Hotel). The backpackers hired as waitresses and barmen here were less than friendly. After lunch we walked down the street browsing the shops before heading up to the lookout. The lookout gives you a view of 4 Mile Beach which runs parallel with the main road. The view was great only marred by the cable and nets of the anti-stinger enclosure.

After a 45 minute drive back along the coast road we pulled into Palm Cove. This is part residential development and part up market tourist accomodation. There was also a caravan park near the Jetty. The view from the jetty and beach was awesome, looking across at two islands.

After leaving Palm Cove we went back to the motel for a shower before heading over to AB & UD's for hamburgers for tea.

Spent some time with RDJ, trying to settle him down as he was still out of sorts a bit. He is a beautiful baby.

First Day Back

Well, today is the day. The first day back at work after a 5 weeks off with the kids. You couldn't really call it a holiday though as we didn't go away anywhere. Surprisingly, I am actually not apprehensive about the return to work as the break was sufficiently long enough to clear my head of all the troubles and happenings of the past year. That and I enjoy the work I do, in the main.
