Our Cairns Trip - Day 6

We started off the day at AB and UD's taking some pictures of RDJ for his birth announcement. He is one photogenic kid.

Then, at about 11am we headed up the mountain to Kuranda. On the way up the range there was one crazy woman driver, sitting so close up my arse, that I could have helped her put her makup on.

Once up the top we went to Barron Falls. There is a track that winds it's way up and down through the rainforest for about 600 metres, past the Kuranda Railway station to the Barron Falls lookout. It wasn't flowing very much but we saw some photos of the falls in full flight and it would definately be a sight to behold.

After the falls we headed back into town for some lunch. One thing to note up here is they (shops and touristy things) really take advantage of the tourists. Anything touristy will really set you back a lot of Dough.

We had lunch at the Rainforest View Cafe.

After lunch we walked along the street browsing the shops when SPLATTER rain again. We got to browse the eastern side of the street only.

We then got to watch an old fashioned candy pulling and making demonstration.

After that we headed over to the Australian Butterfly Sanctury to try and get some photos of some if the butterflies. Again a tourist ripoff, $45 for the family to get in. The butterflies were spectacular though. Especially the Ulyssess and Richmond Birdwing.

I was able to get a photo of the Richmond Birdwing but not the elusive Ulyssees. As soon as they landed the fold up their wings.

By the time we got out of the butterfly house it was bang on 4pm and all the shops up there shut at about 3:30 - 4 pm, so we missed out on browsing the western side of the street. (Mum if you are reading we couldn't find any bag hooks in the shops we did get to look at)

We then took a leisurely drive home, and cooked home made pizzas at AB & UD's for tea.

First Day Back

Well, today is the day. The first day back at work after a 5 weeks off with the kids. You couldn't really call it a holiday though as we didn't go away anywhere. Surprisingly, I am actually not apprehensive about the return to work as the break was sufficiently long enough to clear my head of all the troubles and happenings of the past year. That and I enjoy the work I do, in the main.
